Although the majority of the Forest of Dean is in Gloucestershire, some of it is on the borders of the south of Herefordshire. The photo below (which is 2 photos joined) is a fantastic view as seen from Symonds Yat Rock in Gloucestershire with the left part of the photo looking northwards in Herefordshire towards Ross-on-Wye.
The Forest of Dean is the second largest crown owned forest in England (after the New Forest in Hampshire) and its unspoilt mixed woodland are a fantastic place to enjoy walking, bird watching and other outdoor activities including canoeing.
This area is the birthplace of tourism as we know it (see Ross-on-Wye) and with scenery as spectacular as this, it is easy to see why.
